Thirstyknight

Thursday Nights

These are my reports of the games we play and our views of the weaknesses and strengths of the games. I will be blunt, truthful and not always kind (except about my D&D Campaign!)

We're BACK!!!!!!!!!

The first attempt...Posted by Sir Keith Sat, March 09, 2013 16:50:07

OK - what a start to 2013 - work has been manic, kids ill and all in all time to work on a blog or a website hasd been very limited. However there is light at the end of the tunnel and hopefully, an all new Thirsty knight, with more involvement, exposure and more features, updates, comments, reviews and reports will be flying your way.

I have a new RPG site that will replace the current pages, while the board game site (the main site) will be taken over by Sir Lard.

I will still be on: commenting moaning and reporting as well as updating you all on Kickstarter and some of the campaigns we have backed. As well as one that may be upcoming (you have been warned).

So - the bad grammar, the bad spelling and the poor timing is back!!

Yeah baby

The first attempt...Posted by Keith Mon, November 28, 2011 13:00:04

This Thursday night no one bought a game round so Nick pulled out Race for the Galaxy. we play this will all the expansions but do not use the conquest optional rules.

I have found the conquest rules really unblance the game and do not add any more enjoyment. The designers really missed an excellent opportunity to really add to the game. This means the game itself is very hit and miss. If the majority get a good start then there is a lot of cut and thrust. However two or three poor starts and it can be the most boring game of solitaire invented.

Race can work very well and there is a good video review of the game on the Shut Up and Sit down site (episode 4) which can be reached here. The concept and the execution in the core rules are good and the expansions do not unbalance the game (until the conquest rules are followed).

Three games were played with Nick, Animal and Steve all winning. The first two games were close and fun. On the last game Steve got the Blue lock-in and romped to victory whilst my military game slowly disintegrated and i just ended the game as quickly as possible. Each game lasted about 45 mins with 5 people playing so three games feeled the evening nicely.

The main discussion of the night was about Dragonmeet as Nick, Phil and Animal were off to this meeting of gamers. Due to my wife's 40th Birthday I had to spend a weekend in Bath and believe me - it was hell........ Never has so many people come to squash into so little a space for so little to see!!
